Music arranged specifically for concertina
These were arranged by me (for tenor-treble):
The following are based on Dave Townsend's arrangements from his
recording "Portrait of a Concertina":
Bourree by J Krieger. This was
originally written for guitar, but works well on the concertina. Rats!
I must have accidently overwritten this image... I'll try to resurrect
it.
Bourree in Gm by JS Bach (as a Postscript file and in abc the latter being suitable for
abcm2ps, written by Jean-Francois Moine). I arranged this for treble
concertina from a book of duets for violin and cello.
I've started abc'ing Giulio Regondi's Recollections of Home, but
have only done (nearly...and not even with most of the annotations,
let alone fingering!) the first page out of eight... here's what I've done so far (as a Postscript file and in abc, again the latter being only
suitable for abcm2ps). As an interim measure, I've scanned the music
in and put it on this web page (below), though some of it is barely
legible even in the photocopy I've got - that's one of the reasons for
typing it in. Any help abc'ing it would be appreciated...!
Apparantly this is a midi file
containing Blagrove's Morceaux No 3 (sent to me by Paul
Beard). However, I can't read midi files, so I don't know if it works
:(
Scanned in concertina music....
Sorry about the resolution of these - it's a compromise between
file size and legibility, added to which my originals are
not-particularly-legible photocopies...
If anyone fancies converting any of these scanned images into abc (or any other format from which a postscript file can be generated) please let me know, as this would reduce disk usage, and free up room to put more music on this page... It would also be really good to have a seperate, legible copy of the concertina part by itself...
- Where The Bee Sucks - Arne, Arr Blagrove,
Ed. A.D. Townsend. Concertina solo. Page 1 and Page 2.
- Morceau de Salon - Regondi. Concertina part
Page 1,
Page 2 and
Page 3. Originally for concertina
and piano (unfortunately I lost the original piano part, and half of the concertina part got marooned somewhere in Spain). I've got an
arrangement of the piano part for string orchestra (I played this when my school chamber orchestra toured around Spain 6 years ago) - let me know if
you really want it.

This was sent to me by Guido Bos, who in turn received it from Wim
Wakker, who teaches a Bachelor of Music program in English Concertina
at the Schumann academy (see this announcement from the Concertina
Connection, who have a mail-order catalogue of concertina
music. Follow the link to get Wim's email address etc.). Midi files
(made by Guido) containing the first of the Leisure Moments can be
found here and here. I don't know what these sound
like, because I can't play midi files :(

(Donated by Stuart Ashburner: Here's the zipped file he sent me
- I could only open the tif files in some MS applications though...)
Although these look big on the screen, my version of Netscape scales
them to fit on the page when printing. To view them on the screen,
download the files and view them with an image viewer/editor.

Other tunes of various origins....
- The left side jig (written by Simon Thoumiere, arr by me). Me playing it:in Windows Media Audio format, and (larger download) MP3 format.
- Louise's lament - also in abc format, and here's me playing it (recorded in MP3
format).
- Rat in the Bed - a waltz by me
for one of my rats (Mrs Rowl) when she was ill (in abc). A rather naff audio file (I don't think the generation
of this file worked completely...)
- Music for a found Harmonium (by
Simon Jeffes, published by Editions Penguin Cafe), and this 'wrong' version based on Patrick Street's
recording
- Thomas Mcelvogue's number 1 - Lyn Tocker plays it very nicely...
- Finnish Schottisch - a sneaky little number
- Horizonto - From Blowzabella (in abc)
- Retour des Hirondelles (in abc) from the playing of Sharon Shannon - apparantly there's a third part...
- Tico Tico (in abc) from the playing of Dermot Byrne (any corrections, especially to the chords, will be appreciated!)
- Tam-Lin - more of a chord sequence than a tune, but its still fun!
- Hugh Shortie's from the playing of Nomos.
- Freddie's Reel from the Poozies' most recent CD. I haven't checked the chords yet, but the tune is ace!
- Guitar accompaniment (written/arranged by me) to Sueno de Barrilete. The original tune in Gif, Postscript and abc format.
Here's
the only other page I know of with a few arangements for mainly
English concertina (mostly easier than the ones here).
